Weaving is an ancient textile craft in which two sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to create a fabric or cloth. The process of weaving uses a loom and a variety of tools, such as weaving shuttles, sticks, bobbins, and pirns, to create the fabric.

Rag shuttles are designed to hold fabric strips for making rag rugs; they have a large, flat area so that the cloth can remain flat while it is wrapped around. On the other hand, rug shuttles are heavier and sturdier than other hand-wound shuttles and are great for using with thick rug wool.
Compared to ski shuttles, rug shuttles are more advanced and require more skill from the weaver.
