Weaving: Structure and Substance

A Fresh Look at Weave Design

Weaving: Structure and Substance discusses weave design from several different perspectives, showing how resources, ideas, and practical experience can come together in a creative process of designing through making. The book comes with 288 colour photographs.

Highlighting the potential of woven textiles throughout, the author, Ann Richards, follows the success of her other book, Weaving Textiles That Shape Themselves, and explores the tactile properties that emerge from the interaction of material and structure.

Anne Richards, whose work has been exhibited widely in the UK and other countries, trained and worked as a biologist, before going on to study woven textiles at West Surrey College of Art & Design. Her background in biology has strongly influenced her textile work, which often draws on form and function in nature. Over the past twenty years, she has lectured and given workshops in the UK and abroad, including Europe, Canada, and the USA.
