Made of dark Koshitsu bamboo and Shirotake Bamboo, the ITO crochet hooks feature a warm touch and smooth surface. Only the best Japanese bamboo is selected and carefully processed to produce these hooks.
How are the ITO bamboo crochet hooks made?
The material for the dark Koshitsu bamboo hooks (up to 10 mm) is stored up to 10 years and is additionally steamed. This process helps make the bamboo stronger and prevents warping. Due to warm hands, light bamboo needles tend to get easily bent while knitting. Therefore, the Koshitsu bamboo is especially great for smaller needle sizes.
The dark bamboo hooks are then treated with natural wax to create a beautiful finish. For larger needle and hook sizes, Shirotake bamboo is used. The process involves drying it under the sun and then it is processed with essential oils.
The ITO premium quality bamboo hooks and needles have been manufactured sustainably in a traditional handicraft business between Osaka and Kyoto, which has been producing knitting needles and crochet hooks for over 100 years.
Crochet Hooks are available in 15 cm / 6'' length with sizes from 2 mm to 12 mm. The size 12.0mm is made from Shirotake Bamboo. Sold as individual hooks.
